Project 2

Assignment 1

For this activity, I chose a map of my hometown as my target. For my first activity I placed some photos I took when I was in my home town in China. I found the address of my hometown in the mapbox and used the photos I took as color swatches to create different colored maps. For each of the different sizes, I also cut them all down to the appropriate size and put them into my code.
  • I chose a picture I took of my hometown when I was back home this past summer. My hometown is in China, Qingdao.
  • I think all of these images are important memories for me. These are the places where I grew up and they hold my childhood and the people who grew up with me. That's why I chose these pictures that mean something to me. When I look at these pictures, I think back to those happy times.
  • Most of the map colors generated from my images are dark. I think darker maps work better for me at night. I prefer lighter colors and more directional maps.
  • I explored additional websites to assist my research in class. Information was refined by using different websites and resources. I also browsed student examples to use as reference so that I could absorb inspiration for my assignments.

This is a famous attraction in Qingdao and its name is Trestle Bridge. This is one of the famous places in Qingdao. I took it this summer and it's called Jimo Ancient City. Here's a picture I took while running in my hometown. It was fogging at that time. Here's a windmill my grandpa made out of plastic bottles :) i especially love them! This is the beach in Qingdao. (Sunny version) This is the beach in Qingdao. (Cloudy version) This is the beach in Qingdao. (Foggy version) Qingdao's boulevard. It's especially green because it's summer. This is a kiosk at the bottom of the hill with some hand-painted food photos hanging outside. This is a view of Qingdao taken from the top of a hill. Here are the plants my grandfather grew and the little windmill he made. It spins when the wind blows. Beautiful sky and tall buildings on the platform. The sea photographed from the bridge. pThe sea photographed from the bridge. This is a Christian church in Qingdao. Map of Qingdao in bright blue and dark brown color scheme. Map of Qingdao with light blue and dark blue color scheme. Map of Qingdao with dark green and light green colors. Map of Qingdao with dark blue and reddish brown colors. Assignment 2

This week I explored activities in Adobe Aero and in which is with modeling. I also explored laser cutting for painting. No laser cutting yet, but I am ready to print the pattern. In addition, I explored the animation features in Aero to give modeling animation effects.
  • First for Aero, I first found the theme I wanted to explore and then modeled it inside c4d. Then after putting the modeling into the Aero binding animation. Here are some of my own modeling and some of the models I found online. For the laser print, I identified the subject and location I wanted to paint. So I painted this and edited it in Ai to prepare it for the next cut.
  • I think I'm most interested in laser printing. I think I'm most interested in laser printing because I can choose what I want to do with it. So I can choose my hometown as the theme and introduce and draw it. This is something I am familiar with. That's why I'm more interested in laser printing.
  • I plan to continue exploring my hometown. Because it's a place I'm familiar with, so I can learn all the information about this place.
  • In the lecture, I explored the handouts and the programming use of p5js.

Some of the sights of Qingdao that I drew. This will be what I laser printed. A laser print of what I drew. This one is the base. This is the entire content of the attractions I laser printed. This is the left part of the laser print detail content. This is the laser print of the cell phone holder. This is my first laser printed cell phone holder. This is the cell phone holder pattern I edited inside AI. This is me editing the already painted pattern and base inside AI. This is a top view of the skull I explored inside Aero. This is a front view of the skull I explored inside Aero, plus a floor. Here's a display of the 3d effect in Aero with the windows and moon and skull I added (top right). This is the window and moon and 3d effect display I added in Aero (front). This is the window and moon and 3d effect display I added in Aero (top left). Here's a plan showing the effect. This is what my modeled window looks like in Aero. This is a front view of editing my modeling and online footage in Aero. This is what the modeling looks like in C4d. Here's the window I modeled in C4d, which I split into three parts. This can be turned into an animation inside Aero. This is a book resource downloaded from the Aero material library. This is what the window modeled in C4d looks like after rendering. This is a front view of editing my modeling and online footage in Aero. This is what the book looks like when placed in reality. This is the bat material I found online that moves in Aero. This is the bat material I found online that moves in Aero. This is what it looks like when it's all modeled together in Aero.

  • I find the more open and structured but repetitive locations suitable for me to make observations. This is because such locations are better to observe and make adjustments accordingly. I believe that environmental psychology, which focuses on human behavior and experience in physical environments, can help to understand how to design transitional spaces, such as stairways and corridors, to enhance comfort and efficiency.
  • For the location I chose, they are probably made of mostly the same materials. Because both the stairs and the walls need to be built of sturdy materials. And they both have a lot of color depicted. What they have in common is that they both have an open space and a lot of foot traffic. The difference is that one of them is a straight open space and the other has a winding stairway.

    • Because she thinks this bookshelf is more design than that big S. This one can collect more books and is movable. So this one is more convenient to use and safe. And the hollowed out design will be more beautiful.
    • Unsure of the demographic and unsure of the frequency with which the product will be used. How much foot traffic will there be in front of the library each day? How many people will stop by? These are all unknowns. What we do have in mind is to make life easier for people and to simplify some of the unnecessary steps.
    • I thought I would make the whole design cleaner and able to help those in need. I think I would make my design more flexible and able to help different groups of people, not just a single section. On top of that, I also want my design to be more aesthetically pleasing and functional. To make a product design that can really help people.

<li>This one photo is a rendering of the final design product that I drew. This will give me a preview of the rendering before allowing me to do the modeling. It also allows for a visual comparison of the different designs I chose.</li><li>
This picture represents the idea and a specific look of my final design. I believe that drawing can be the most tangible representation of my design idea and the product itself.</li><li>
What I gained was that I chose the difference between the two and which design I really wanted. And I can find the mistakes in the design in advance and correct them.</li>
<li>This photo is a planner. It contains the products and theories I want to design. This will list the prototype of the product I want to make.
</li><li>
This photo is a clear representation of the product modeling I am doing. It represents the goals and design principles.</li><li>
My main takeaway is that I know what design I want to make and can understand what product needs to be redesigned in this area.</li>
<li>This photo is the last bookcase I modeled inside C4d. Here's the rendering afterward.
</li><li>
This picture represents my final choice of a more functional design rather than a more ornamental one.</li><li>
My main takeaways were modeling skills and an improved design aesthetic for different styles and areas. And I learned the benefits and drawbacks of different designs.</li>

    Project 2

    Final Project 2 Design

    Put your design statement here:
    • I ended up going with laser printing. Because I think laser printing can express the design concept and final product that I want to express. First of all the laser print is a solid body, so I will design it according to the material and different situations. This way I can learn more techniques. The second thing is that I think the place I picked is a good place to use something solid to express. Like a souvenir in a tourist city. This is alsoThis is alsoThis also relates toThis also relates to whyThis also relates to why I would pickThis also relates to why I would choose a laser printedThis also relates to the reason why I would choose laser printingThis also relates to the reason why I would choose laser printing.
    • During the course of the project, I incorporated not only my life, but also the lectures from class. First, I learned about the many different ways to express landmarks based on what I learned about them in class lectures. After different attempts I finally chose laser printing as my final product. Not only that, but the lecture also taught me how to design a complete product. As a student, it is necessary to advance into sexually based literature study before experimenting and taking action. So the lecture was essential as a start to guide my design.
    • For my final design, I think the first and second activities helped me a lot. I was able to define what I wanted to accomplish when I finished the first project so that I could continue to work on this.I chose my hometown because I know it well and it was a good opportunity to express it with the opportunities that I learned.

This is my final design. It's in the shape of a crystal ball, and the top layer contains five attractions from my hometown of QingDao. I colored it with watercolors. I used blue which is also the color of the sea as the background.
